What is cultural heritage?

Colorado Creative Industries defines cultural heritage as the folk or traditional arts (music, dance, craft, verbal arts) practiced by groups of people who share a common ethnic heritage, language, religion, occupation, geographic region, or way of life. These artistic traditions are often taught within a family over many generations, or within a trade or ethnic culture.

Preserving and promoting our state’s cultural heritage is key to the Colorado Creative Industries mission. We help communities discover their cultural treasures and celebrate their unique cultural heritage. We also assist Colorado traditional artists in presenting, preserving and finding funding for their work. Click to view Cultural Heritage Resources and Links.
