New Grant Deadlines Announced for Artists, Organizations, Schools
Separate deadlines for state project grants and NEA Recovery funds

DENVER, CO (March 10, 2009) - Although the state budget is not finalized, the Colorado Council on the Arts has set new deadlines for the 2009-10 Grants to Artists and Organizations (GAO) and Success through Art (StART Schools). The deadline for GAO is April 23, 2009.  The deadline for StART Schools is May 7. Guidelines and online application forms will be posted to coloarts.org in the next two weeks. There will be slight changes, such as a lower maximum request and additional data requirements on jobs, but in general the programs are similar to previous years. This announcement assumes the legislature will approve a 25% cut in our state appropriation. We will immediately notify you if this budget amount is not approved.

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced a deadline of April 2 for direct one-time grants to eligible nonprofit organizations as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Applicants for these grants must be previous NEA award recipients from the past four years. A list of Colorado applicants eligible to apply for direct NEA funding is included below. For NEA Recovery funds guidelines, go to http://www.arts.gov/recovery/nea-recovery-programs.html

The Colorado Council on the Arts will also be receiving NEA Recovery funds for subgranting, and a separate deadline to apply for those funds will be set for July. It is important to note that organizations are limited to receiving NEA American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds through only one source – from the Arts Endowment directly, or directly through an entity eligible to subgrant NEA funds including a state arts agency, a regional arts organization of state arts agencies, or a designated local arts agency that is eligible to subgrant funds. Organizations may decide to apply to multiple of these sources, but if awarded, they will be required to choose a single award to receive. Organizations are, however, eligible to apply for and receive both a GAO award and an NEA Recovery funds award.

Over the next several days we will add further details to our website. We will also schedule a conference call at which you can ask questions. Please stay tuned, and thank you for your support and patience during these past two months. We know it has been a difficult time for everyone.
