Take A Trip To A Special Place
Explore the history and traditions of an area by visiting a special place in your community. There are many fine examples around the state including museums, living history farms, historical buildings and cultural centers. At Denver’s Four Mile Historic Park, for instance, hands on activities for school groups make the past come to life. Students can make butter at Denver’s oldest standing house, use classroom skills on a portion of the Cherokee Trail, and experience music and dance activities. Find a historical or cultural site in your area, call ahead to arrange for group tours and special activities, and use the ideas in this section for planning a very special activity for your class. Section IV: Resources includes excellent recommendations for exploring folk music, folk dance, and mining.
