cultural heritage grants and resources

Colorado Creates Grants:  These grants help to promote cultural, educational and economic growth through statewide investment in creative activities and organizations.  Cultural heritage applications need to demonstrate that the proposed artists and artistic work are considered authentic by that cultural group and that artists are recognized as tradition bearers.  Collaboration with other community groups and organizations is also a necessity.  Grant amounts are based on the applicant organization’s operating budget.  Previous grants have funded activities including  pow wows that showcase the traditions of tribes from Colorado and throughout the United States, and a quilt festival that included classes, public programs, and an exhibit.

Folk Arts Archives: CCI’s folk arts archives represent the accomplishments of numerous folklorists who have worked throughout the state for over twenty-five years.  Conducting fieldwork in Colorado communities, they have identified traditional artists whose work arises out of ethnic, regional or occupational heritage.  The folklorists provided assistance to help these artists plan and present a wide variety of events and activities to celebrate Colorado’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.   Documentation of their work is located in various museum and university collections. Bea Roeder’s archives are in the Colorado History Museum, Kathleen Figgen’s archives are in the Adams State College Library, Georgia Wier’s archives are in the Greeley History Museum, and Ronna Lee Sharpe’s archives are in the Museum of Western Colorado.
