Mesa State College- Grand Junction, CO Saunders Building Renovation
Budget: $71,000
To be installed Fall 2010
Saunders Multi-Use Facility houses programs in recreation, athletics, nursing and kinesiology. The current 70,000 sq. ft. will be increased by 180,000 sq. ft. with additions that will enhance and upgrade all the facilities including a new 50 meter natatorium with spectator seating. This facility is used by the students and many community activities take place at the facility.
Kathi Caricof’s, Denver, Colorado, artwork On the Move is a series of four wall mounted stone reliefs that will be located in the Corridor off the main entry. The process will involve working with the MSC to select final images of athletes. Each photo will be broken down into stylized value layers that are etched at stepped levels into the limestone creating a low relief. The limestone will be framed in powder-coated steel, and she suggests using the Urbane Bronze color to complement the building. Each panel will measure 7ft high, 4ft wide, and 2.5” thick including frame.
Jean Latka of Pueblo, Colorado will create SPLASH 9.9 a two-dimensional mural 60’ long by 7’ tall, fabricated from 12” X 12” ceramic tiles that have been painted and air-brushed with glazes to create an image of a splash. Adhered to the surface of the splash are fused glass sculptural elements, made from recycled glass, that will give a three dimensional quality. |
